Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Dallas Rabenstein recently announced the selection of Yunzeng Wang as the new dean of the School of Business Administration (SoBA). Wang, who previously served as interim dean of SoBA, will now serve a five-year position at UCR’s business school.

“Dean Wang is an energetic leader with a keen understanding of the School’s (sic) strengths and challenges,” stated Rabenstein in an email to the UCR community. “I look forward to partnering with Yunzeng on his ambitious plans to move the School forward and to grow the faculty.”

Wang previously served as the Dean’s Distinguished Scholar in Supply Chain Management and Professor of Finance and Management Science of SoBA when he first joined the university in 2008. Since then, Wang has been involved in numerous projects, including launching three graduate programs that have been credited with nearly doubling the amount of students in the school. Additionally, he has also been involved in fundraising and outreach efforts.

Wang will replace the former dean of SoBA David Stewart who was relieved of his duties in 2011. In March of 2013, more than a year after he was fired, Stewart filed a lawsuit against the university for allegedly misallocating funds to the business school.

After Stewart’s departure, Wang was named acting dean and later interim dean of the business school.

Wang holds a Ph.D. in operations management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds master’s degrees in management sciences from the University of Waterloo in Canada and engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology in China. Prior to working at UC Riverside, Wang also had stints at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University and the School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas.
