sports.womensgolfIn their second tournament of the month, UCR women’s golf wrestled with windy conditions at the Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside, as the Battle at the Rock tournament was underway. The team finished second overall in the three-round tournament, shooting their best team score of the season with two under 286, only 14 shots behind Santa Clara.

During Monday’s first two rounds, the Highlanders placed three golfers in the top 10: Haley Wian, Paris Griffith and Hannah Facchini. Each golfer managed an impressive total score of 158, 159 and 160 during the first two rounds which helped tremendously in putting the team at second overall during the first day.

The final round took place on the following Tuesday when UCR finished strong with Wian (228, 12-over-par) finishing second and Griffith (229, 13-over-par) finishing third overall. Both were two of five golfers to achieve a two-under-par 70 in the final round.

This season has been a tremendous one for UCR as the five events they’ve participated in thus far have landed them two titles and a runner-up finish. Their next event will be at the UNA Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz. on Sat., March 5.
