hoverboard

On Tuesday, Feb. 23, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a hoverboard robbery occurred by the University Village. The Riverside Police Department is currently investigating the theft.

Two women were travelling on the northeast corner of University and Iowa avenues when a black sedan approached them. The woman riding the hoverboard, was asked a question about the board by the front passenger. The passenger then pulled out a handgun and demanded the hoverboard, and took off toward the I-215 freeway down University Avenue once the board was handed over.

Hoverboards were a popular holiday item last year, with a price range between $400 to $1,500. Due to this popularity, the assistant chief of police John Freese at UCR stated in an email, “Please be careful when walking late at night and consider that hoverboards are high-value items that may be targeted by criminals.”
