UC Riverside’s men’s golf began their winter season at the Folino Invitational hosted by CSU Fullerton on Monday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday, Jan. 31. The Highlanders placed sixth in the tournament overall, and senior Sam Gillis returned to action for the first time since being sidelined with an illness back in the fall. Gillis finished with a tie for fourth on the individual score with two-over-par after shooting even par on his first round then consecutive 73’s.

For the Highlanders, this is a solid start to the winter season with Gillis, who is an integral part of the five-man travel team, seeming to be close to form in this opening tournament. The rest of the Highlanders travel team consisted of junior Matt Lutz (+57), sophomores Andrew Spillman (+16) and Michael Wong (+7) and senior Pachara Sakulyong (+22).

The Highlanders are back in action Monday, Feb. 13 and Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the Pro Compression Invitational hosted by the University of San Diego.
