The UC Riverside’s women’s golf team conclude their season this past Tuesday at the 2012 Big West Conference Women’s Golf Championship, where they finished seventh out of seven teams with a total score of 950. Amelia Ek paced the Highlanders with an eighth place finish, scoring 229 total after three rounds. Ek finished nine strokes behind the winner of the tourney, UC Davis’s Bev Vatananugulkit. Vatananugulkit helped her team win their third consecutive championship as the Aggies scored 898, fending off second place UC Irvine (911) by 13 strokes.

In round one of play, the Highlanders finished with a score of 322, placing them in last place. However the Highlanders were only two strokes behind sixth place Cal Poly and three strokes behind fifth place CSU Fullerton. Brittani Ferraro paced the Highlanders with a score of 77 securing her in ninth place while Ek was one stroke behind Ferraro with a score of 78.

In round two, the Highlanders remained in last place shooting a 322 in the second round. Their total score after two rounds stood at 644, putting them a large distance of 15 strokes from sixth place Cal Poly. Ferraro continued to lead the Highlanders, scoring a 78 in round two. Ek also finished with a score of 78 in round two.

In round three, the Highlanders had their best performance as they shot a 306 for the last round, but it was not good enough to move them up in the standings as they finished in seventh place. Ek had a sensational final round scoring a 73 placing her in eighth place. Ferraro scored a 80 giving her a total of 235 as she finished 21st overall. Savannah Vilaubi (80-79-76) had a total score of 235, tying Ferraro for 21st place.  Christy Fogerty (87-87-77) finished 33rd overall with a total score of 251, and Denyse Neville (87-88-82) scored a 257 total, good for 35th place.
