On the night of Sunday, March 3, a total of three robberies and attempted robberies were reported on the UCR campus.

The robberies took place near the area of parking lot 19.  A pallet gun was used by one of the two suspects, according to  UCPD Sergeant Anthony Zamora.  “[It was] a fake gun, not a bullet-shooting gun,” he reported.

The victims and witnesses immediately called police and UCPD officers rushed to the scene. When they arrived, the victims involved pointed out one of the suspects and authorities immediately took him into custody.

One of the suspects, JC French, a 20-year-old from Moreno Valley was arrested on the scene. He was found with “BB-style gun,” according to Sergeant Zamora.

The following day, authorities arrested Marzaveus Reese, a 21-year-old man in Moreno Valley. Reese assisted French by driving a getaway vehicle during the robberies.

French was arrested on four counts, including robbery and attempted robbery. Reese was booked on three counts including robbery and conspiracy.

The Highlander spoke with a few of the victims, but they were too shaken up from the robberies to comment.
Authorities sent an email to students, cautioning them to remain vigilant when walking on campus at night.
